Session 3: Applying Knowledge through Case Studies

GPA – Gentle Persuasive Approaches In Dementia Care Training

This innovative full day curriculum is interactive and practical.  It is designed to address responsive behaviours that occur in residents with moderate to severe dementia.  It encourages staff to assess the meaning of the responsive behaviour, learn strategies to manage the behaviour to prevent escalation, and to develop person-centred care plans for each resident to prevent the occurrence of future behaviours.

    Case Consultation

This consultation is geared towards a current difficult issue staff is experiencing with a resident as a result of dementia.  The issue will be problem solved, and care strategies generated using the principles of person-centered care.  Case consultation is most effective if staff have already attended one of the training sessions above.

    Education for Families

Families of residents with dementia often do not know how to understand or cope with their loved ones dementia or behaviour in a long-term care home setting.  Education on dementia, and the symptoms and behaviours associated with it, can be given to families, either individually or in a group setting.
